There has recently been a high chance of consuming counterfeit or medicine, both prescribed or bought at chemist and pharmacy shops.

A government report has warned that drugs, such as the common pain reliever pill paracetamol, and certain antibiotics may have been fake and not of standard quality.

Across India in January 2014, at least 32 types of medicines which were sold in chemist shops, pharmacies and hospitals, as well as the national Capital, had failed government tests and have been declared ‘not of standard quality’ by the Health Ministry’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO)

On February 27 2014, over 2.4 million counterfeit drugs were discovered in the port of Le Havre, France which included over 1.2 million packets of aspirin containing sugar, in replacement of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API).

French custom officials seized 2.4 million drugs at the port.
